Description
1936 ACF 34' yacht/cruiser, taking and considering offers of around $2000, needs an engine or you can possibly rebuild its Cadillac 505 V-8( the crank is stuck;used an 18" breaker)-externally it appears very rusty -I removed the planks where there were gaps, exposing 18(total breaks)gradually broken (over time)ribs at the same level, mostly on the portside, it also needs a few carvel planks replaced in other areas; actually though, not too much to consider it worthwhile; it depends a lot on the resourcefulness of the carpenter-I'd add some screws where it would help- also of course I would utilize the advantages of modern epoxy products- its basically structurally sound--original wheel and head sink and brass-trimmed mahogany floorboards with some teakwood paneling(beneath peeling whitewash)- rotted rubrails and some interior rot in a few places; just cut out and rebuild; needs a couple walls replaced and a galley countertop etc.-the extensive 'peeling paint' condition breaks up any continuity the interior actually still retains -- ACF made 100ft elegant(custom woodwork) railroad cars for the likes of Carnegie, Dupont, Vanderbuilt and many other wealthy clients- whether you're a slow methodic craftsman or an ace whirlwind, the end result ACF could be equally exclusive and impressive- this project(excluding the engine effort) with its many needed repairs would take a much shorter time with a proficient worker following a highly-organised planned effort or a casual parttime effort stretched out for a few months, makes no difference. It'll still get there. No easy feat but most assuredly worth the time and effort. I can be reached at 508.648.7722 (will need to leave a message, I'll call you back. My 'for sale' offer is flexible. It depends. It is a real project (wood replacement and engine rebuild, possible if block not cracked. It is also an authentic ACF with a custom extended cabin(extra 3 feet)- I'd be tremendously surprised if another even exists. This boat deserves to be restored with good hands. I've been storing it outside(paying) for over 15 years. I've paid thousands to keep it from an undignified demise. The rear open area was enclosed for the first 6 years and these last 13 months. For the years in between it had been suffering the elements. Even so, I still believe that this boat deserves another chance. I may do it myself if no-one can recognize the value and/or lacks the energy and/or resources. Hopefully this internet ad reaches an astute invester/collector with enough foresight to be able to look past its present state of disrepair and to see what it will be when the repairs have been made. ACFs were individually custom-crafted, except for the standardized hull. The original interiors were crafted by the same woodworkers responsible for the interiors of most of the Newport mansions. In their day they were famously 'overbuilt', once refered to as a 'RollsRoyce' of woodenboats. This intrinsically-valuable irreplaceable classic restoration project is ready to be brought back to life. 3 years ago I was tremendously surprised to hear from the grandson of a man (retired Navy Admiral)from Michigan who sold to The United Arab Emirates (6) six A-condition (1933 to 1936[34' up to 48']) ACFs for(3)three million dollars. This fact then reinforced what I had already believed to be true about its value, when I acquired it 15 storage years ago. Two years at Fifty Fathom Marine, Falmouth, 7 years at Sun Storage Falmouth, and some years at Sun Storage Mashpee, MA. 13 months ago it was hauled to its present space.
